Here’s what I have found. You will do a google search for “quotes for short term car insurance” or “car insurance short term quote” or some other variety of that phrase, you get the point. Then multiple websites will come up, promising you quotes in 2 minutes to 9 minutes etc. I wanted to get several different quotes, so I selected one of the websites that offered quotes from several companies instead of a specific company web page (GEICO etc). You’ll go in and start filling out the questionnaire. The time estimates are accurate, it only takes a couple of minutes to fill out the questionnaire. However, you’ll go through the whole thing – which is usually multiple pages long, and never find a spot where you can specify the length of your insurance, or even that you’re interested in short term insurance instead of the standard 6 – 12 month policy.
So after quite a bit of time and many variations of the “short term car insurance quote” search, I have nothing to show for my labors. I truly hate calling companies, I don’t do particularly well with salesman. I either get suckered into buying too much, or say no to everything, or don’t ask enough questions etc. Maybe one day I’ll grow up.
However, I think the current answer to where to get this type of car insurance quote is unfortunately to call several companies and see what they say. This is the only way you’ll be able to specify the type of coverage you want. The only website that I found that followed through at least in mentioning short term auto insurance on the actual quote page was usinsuranceonline.com. However, again they ask you to fill out a questionnaire in order to connect with agents who can offer temporary car insurance quotes Basically meaning that you will have to fill out the questions like you want a regular auto policy and then pick one of the list of agents they give you to call and get further information.
I however, will keep searching, and if I find anyway to do it quickly online like so many websites offer I will immediately post it here.
When filling out the questions be sure and select the type of insurance you want for your short term auto insurance (liability only, full coverage, medical etc). This will most likely give you a more accurate idea of which company will offer the cheapest price. Your car, driving history etc will all be the same with a short term policy or a standard policy so it’s a good idea to start with the cheapest quote and work your way up.
Clarification: This frustration only applies to trying to get a short term car insurance quote in the United States. There are numerous online companies in the UK who specialize in this type of insurance, and are readily found if you add UK to your google search.
